D&AD Competion brief

I had a little chat with Joe today and it opened my mind with my book and layout and making it more even and together, he gave me some great ideas and he said my Type book was too random and that i needed to be very strict with the rules, he said if I want people to read it then it should n't be too experimental and random even if that means it looks boring. The main point he told me to do was look at some existing books for inspirational ideas, and not particularly typography books.

Evaluation of Crit

For Crit I was so nervous and I really prepared for the worse but today went really well with Lorenzo, it made me very positive about my future plans for these briefs and gave me a great focus on what to do next, there is a lot more to do but I think im on the right path.


Here a a few points that I will do next:
Bellavista branding brief - I need to think bigger, my designs are nice n all but I need to start putting them in Context, not only do I want to experiment with print but I also want to think about the interior of the restaurant  after all, going to a high end restaurant is an experience. So there fore I am going to look at the handle of the front door, napkins, table cloth, plates etc so this is still on going and this will be my main biggest brief.


Pluto music - Should have something for people to take away, like a promotional booklet or Arthur gave me an idea of putting the logo onto a set of headphones. Also I want to make the website's other pages, and not just the first homepage.


Typeface book - produce another typeface and have a theme for each so that its a set, my first typeface is architecture, second is flowers but im not sure about third as of yet but 3 definitive things is my aim.

Feedback Crit

I feel as though my crit went very well as it directed me into the next chapter of my briefs. I had Fred for the first time and I was very happy witht the feedback I got because I was going round in circles designing and toucting up designs and just wasting time as it wasnt looking any better or worse it simly was just a different aproach. So Fred told me to stop designing now and move onto the next step which was promoting and bringing together my designs. 

I didnt realise but 3 of my briefs are actually very close to completion, and they should be done by my crit on Thursday which they will be if I can get into Print this week. 

After looking at my briefs overall it looks as though most of my briefs are about type and layout, branding and identity. Amber made me think alot deeper about the Bellavista brief by taking my ideas much further, instead of just branding them by making menues and letterheads i could think about the interior of the resaraunt by thinking about the plates and the designs on the wall etc.

I have 2 small briefs and 2 big briefs and she told me to add in another brief that i can collaborate with someone with but I think it might be a little confusing if i do another one, I am going to at least complete the small briefs before i start on a new one.
